Day-by-Day Breakdown of My Hastings
Massage Training Course

Day 1: Introduction to Massage
The first morning, we’ll delve into the fascinating history of massage and the various situations where massage may not be suitable (contraindications). You’ll also learn how to take a detailed medical history from clients and explore essential hygiene routines to ensure a safe and comfortable environment. I will then demonstrate the core principles of the Raynor Massage Technique, followed by a hands-on session where you’ll practice with a partner.
Day 2: Back of Body Focus
The second morning session explores the importance of breath in massage and the various therapeutic effects it can achieve. We’ll also discuss the “Healing Crisis” and how to prepare for it. I will then introduce the concept of “Bands of Tension” – areas where tightness commonly accumulates – and you’ll have a chance to explore these on each other. In the afternoon, I will showcase a comprehensive massage demonstration, revisiting techniques from Day 1 and introducing new areas like the back, sacrum, legs, hips, and glutes.
Day 3: Front of Body Techniques
This morning, we’ll discuss the ideal duration of a Raynor Massage and the qualities a successful massage therapist should possess. We’ll also delve into abdominal massage and its impact on the digestive system. A group workshop will then guide you through effective massage techniques for the neck, face, jaw, and scalp. The afternoon features a massage demonstration, focusing on the front of the legs, stomach, neck, and head. Students will then pair up again to practice these new techniques.
Day 4: Side Bodywork & Pregnancy
The morning session tackles how to manage negative energy from clients and the different massage oils available. We’ll also discuss key considerations when choosing a massage table. Pregnancy massage is a key focus – you’ll learn how to adapt your techniques to safely massage someone throughout their pregnancy while also covering essential pregnancy massage contraindications. The morning workshop will focus on pregnancy massage techniques and side-bodywork, including a detailed hip release. The afternoon features a longer, one-way massage swap where students will either give or receive a massage.
Day 5: Practice Makes Perfect!
The morning begins with students completing the massage swap from the previous day and switching roles to gain experience from both perspectives. This is followed by another massage demonstration. In the afternoon, we’ll discuss how to effectively market your new massage therapy business and get it up and running quickly. Students will also have the opportunity to massage yours truly, receiving valuable feedback to improve their technique.
Day 6: Reflexology, Stretching & Aromatherapy
This morning, you’ll learn a series of stretches to incorporate into your massage routine, targeting various areas of the body and particularly useful for clients with sports injuries. We’ll also explore the theory behind reflexology, followed by a demonstration and a chance to practice it on each other. The afternoon dives into aromatherapy. You’ll be introduced to a range of essential oils, learn about their properties, and how to blend them effectively. In the evening, some students may be invited to participate in the “Student Clinic” as their final assessment, where they’ll massage a member of the public (more details on Day 7).
Day 7: Student Clinic Assessment
On this final day, you’ll be assessed on your ability to deliver a complete massage to a fellow student or a member of the public. The assessment will focus on various aspects, including:

  • Empathy (creating a comfortable and trusting environment)
  • Focus and Attention (maintaining focus and addressing client concerns)
  • Professionalism (client-centred care, confidentiality, appropriate draping)
  • Hygiene (appropriate hand washing, clean towels, and table)
  • Pressure (applying appropriate pressure within the client’s comfort zone)
  • Techniques (correct application of Raynor Naturopathic Massage)
  • Rhythm and Flow (consistent and well-integrated movements)
  • Breathing (explaining the importance of breathing and ensuring client relaxation)
  • Verbal Communication (courteous communication and informing the client)
  • Overall Effect (achieving a beneficial and relaxing massage experience)

The course typically finishes by 2 pm on the last day. Upon successful assessment, you’ll receive your Raynor Massage Therapy Diploma.
